The useful answer is fast enough for a small batch, with a clear evidence boundary. Cosori publishes a 1,500-watt rating for U.S. 120V/60Hz outlets and says a full cup boils in under three minutes. That timing comes from the manufacturer, not an independent lab result.

The claim does not define a full 1.7-liter timing. Buyers comparing speed should keep a single cup and a full kettle separate; water volume has a direct effect on heating time.

At the August 4 retail check, the Cosori was $27.78. The smaller Hamilton Beach alternative was $27.95. That 17-cent snapshot difference makes capacity and handling more useful tiebreakers than price, because either listing can change.

Capacity has a handling cost. Cosori lists a 2.7-pound empty weight; adding 1.7 liters of water brings the calculated full weight to roughly 6.4 pounds. A smaller kettle can be easier for limited grip strength or one-cup routines.

The published footprint is 8.7 by 5.9 inches, with a 10.3-inch height. Measure under low cabinets before ordering. The body is glass, but the handle, lid assembly, controls, and base are not described as an all-metal exterior.

Two automatic cutoffs cover the basic hazards. The kettle is specified to shut off after boiling, while boil-dry protection cuts power when the vessel lacks enough water. Those features reduce risk; they do not replace the placement and cleaning instructions in the manual.

The official GK172-CO manual says to keep the powered base dry and treats mineral deposits as routine maintenance. Descaling frequency depends on local water hardness, so visible white scale is a practical signal to clean rather than a product defect.

Glass makes buildup visible, but it also requires ordinary impact care. The kettle should sit on a stable counter, away from an edge, and the exterior should cool before handling or cleaning. The handle is designed to stay cooler than the glass vessel.
